Class description:
Take some time to rejuvenate yourself while exploring your creative potential in a playful and supportive environment. It doesn't matter if you have been painting all your life or just have a budding interest. This class is fun and supportive for all levels of skill. Using gouache and pencil on Bristol paper students will create 20 postcard sized paintings in four hours. Gouache, unlike watercolor, has the unique ability to be used opaquely as well as transparently. Students will receive a brief demonstration of the abilities and strengths of gouache along with basic color theory and composition. Then they will use what they learned to explore on their own. This project forces students to listen to their creative voice and not edit the imagery that naturally materializes. This project is intuitive and process oriented. It isn't about creating a perfect painting. It is about the journey. However, students will be pleasantly surprised to see a continuity in the variety of patterns and imagery that emerge in their finished paintings.

- DIY Lounge is located at collage, a locally owned business that sells art supplies with a class space in the back. We have two locations in the Portland, Oregon area.
Visit our locations page addresses and directions. - On average we require a minimum of 3 students to run a class. Class minimums are decided by teachers depending on the needs of the class. If registration is lower, the class will be cancelled and any students who have registered will be notified via email.
- If a class is cancelled we can apply your payment toward another class registration or refund your money in full. Your choice!
- Online pre-registration is required, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. If you require an exception, please use our contact page and let us know your situation.
- At least 48 hour notice is required if you need to cancel your class registration.
- Be sure to check the supply list provided in the class notes and bring those items with you to the class.
