Class description:

Are you ready to move on from showing your art in alternative exhibition spaces? This class will show you the steps to take in finding and applying for gallery level exhibition opportunities. Learn how to build and format your resume, present your portfolio, choose the right exhibition opportunities for your work, work with a gallery owner, and write a contract. Students will also learn how to find opportunities online and ways to promote themselves with press releases, a web site and newsletters. They will be shown systems to keep track of art opportunities and how to create an exhibition schedule for their upcoming shows.

This class will provide students with valuable handouts on subjects discussed in class including local resources for artists. In addition students will be given a CD of useful documents and spreadsheets. This class is primarily lecture based with plenty of time for questions to be answered and information shared. There is a minor writing component.

  • DIY Lounge is located at collage, a locally owned business that sells art supplies with a class space in the back. We have two locations in the Portland, Oregon area.

  • On average we require a minimum of 3 students to run a class. Class minimums are decided by teachers depending on the needs of the class. If registration is lower, the class will be cancelled and any students who have registered will be notified via email.
  • If a class is cancelled we can apply your payment toward another class registration or refund your money in full. Your choice!
  • Online pre-registration is required, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. If you require an exception, please use our contact page and let us know your situation.
  • At least 48 hour notice is required if you need to cancel your class registration.
  • Be sure to check the supply list provided in the class notes and bring those items with you to the class.
