Class description:
So that top that fits just right in all the right places is threadbare and faded? Don’t toss it!
If you know your way around a sewing machine you can learn to draft a pattern like a pro and see your t-shirt rise again, sparkly and new! In this class you will learn basic pattern and trouble-shooting techniques specific to working with knits. Continuous bias & binding seams (mock-serger style) will also be discussed.
Special notes and items to bring:
journal or notebook for sketches, and notes to self
2 1/2 yards of stretch/knit fabric of your choice. (if you are not sure about quantity, measure the length (shoulder to bottom seam) of your shirt to be patterned and triple it for long sleeves, double for short sleeves and tanks with straps.)
thread in coordinating colors to match your fabric selection
scissors
sewing pins
ruler or measuring device with a straight edge (a stiff one works best for drawing the pattern)
measuring tape
paper bags, kraft paper, or pattern paper
felt pen and pencil
sewing machine (and manual if you have it)
sewing (machine) needles (be sure to buy needles that are appropriate for the fabric. ie: needles for knits for t-shirt material)
stretchy bias tape for edging necklines in same or contrasting color – or you can self-edge if you get a little extra fabric (1/4 yard more)
tailor’s chalk
Notes:
If you want to use stretchy elastic for straps, measure your tanks’ straps and add 6 inches for seams.
Collared shirts will not be covered.
