Class description:
While the kids are out of school, Art School is IN SESSION. Jennifer Wells Design, DIY Lounge and a wide variety of local artist/teachers are teaming up to offer an amazingly comprehensive art program for kids age 6-12! This camp operates as three art workshops in one dynamic day. Children participate in unique art and music projects, art history education, and cultural diversity, while gaining insight into themselves and the world around them.
The Day begins at 9AM and ends at 3PM. Students are guided by a teacher through each of the studio work spaces throughout the day. We have one central drop off and pick up location at the Jennifer Wells Studio, located at 1614 NE Alberta Street in the cottage behind the house. Tuition must be paid and registration information needs to be completed before No School Art School is in session.
For this camp the theme is Art from Around the World! Study tribal cultures around the world, and learn how important geometric patterns, symbolic imagery, and color are in native handicrafts. Projects will include: hand-held shakers and cymbals, vibrantly colored Tibetan mandalas, Native American headbands, and African bead pins for trading and a glass project too. Go home with crafts from around the world!
Here are some other projects that we will be doing also:
- Coil pots- small clay pots made by placing coils on top of each other.
- Mosaic Kanji- an art glass mosaic sign of a Japanese kanji symbol
- Guatamalan Worry Dolls- Tiny dolls to whisper your worries to.
- Tropical bath soap: Coconut scented Glycerine soap with a palm tree floating inside.
Special notes and items to bring:
Artists should bring: A sack lunch, close-toed shoes, and make sure your artist is wearing clothes that can get messy.

- DIY Lounge is located at collage, a locally owned business that sells art supplies with a class space in the back. We have two locations in the Portland, Oregon area.
Visit our locations page addresses and directions. - On average we require a minimum of 3 students to run a class. Class minimums are decided by teachers depending on the needs of the class. If registration is lower, the class will be cancelled and any students who have registered will be notified via email.
- If a class is cancelled we can apply your payment toward another class registration or refund your money in full. Your choice!
- Online pre-registration is required, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. If you require an exception, please use our contact page and let us know your situation.
- At least 48 hour notice is required if you need to cancel your class registration.
- Be sure to check the supply list provided in the class notes and bring those items with you to the class.
