Kim Manchester is a feminist artist, photographer, mother of an awesome little boy and comes from a long line of craftswomen. She has been sewing and doing needlework since she was a wee-lass and has been making patterns from her own clothes since Jr.high school. She holds her BFA in studio art and art history from Mills College in Oakland, CA and completed her Masters of Fine Arts at UC San Diego last year in Photography. She learned to knit in Aptos, California and has been trained in embroidery and needlework at the Mendocino Art Center.
For the past three years she has taught art history & photography at UC San Diego as a Teaching Assistant and was hired as a Visiting Professor for winter term 2004. This past year she has been an artist-mentor for the GEMM project (Girls Empowered to Make Media) and was one of the main organizers for Ladyfest San Diego before her move to SE Portland with her son and her husband, where she now writes and makes work about art, home, memory, gender and the sublime subversiveness of craft.
